I don't believe in parallel cinema, claims Paoli Dam

I don't believe in parallel cinema, claims Paoli Dam
Bold actress Paoli Dam is among those Bollywood actresses who have just no qualms on shedding clothes for films. She courted controversy with her Bollywood debut Hate Story. She got noticed for nudity and sex scenes and there were even protests over her bare-back poster.

However, Paoli maintains that she will continue to do intimate scenes as she has no hang-ups with them. "I have no inhibitions as an actor," says Paoli who is now starring in Vikram Bhatt's next venture - Love Games which is a story about wife swapping.

Before venturing into mainstream B-town, Paoli has worked in Bengali parallel cinema. Chatrak, a film on the socio-political life of a city, as she defines it, was a directorial endeavour by Sri Lanka-based filmmaker Vimukthi Jayasundara. It was termed as the boldest film ever made and sources reveal how viewers walked out of the theatres because of the explicit scenes between Paoli and Anubrata Basu.

"I do not believe in parallel cinema. Every film is made for money and it is not different from the mainstream," she explains. Well, we wonder if she so much detests parallel cinema then why she starred in Chatrak - which falls in the category of parallel cinema. And prompt was the reply, "Because it was an international film. Plus, I got to walk the red carpet at Cannes 2011 and that is a dream come true for any actor."

Hmmm…She very well masters the art of playing with words!

Paoli Dam says many girls must have loved her revenge taking ways

Paoli Dam says many girls must have loved her revenge taking ways!
Paoli Dam says many girls must have loved her revenge taking ways
Paoli Dam, the newbie in the town has tried her level best to give a bold hit at the box office with her debut movie Hate Story. However, despite being an extensively erotic thriller, this Vikram Bhatt film failed to get the desired success.

But looks like Paoli is still living the dream and is not willing to get over it! The moment you spot this Bong beauty, the only thing she can be heard talking of late is Hate Story. Ask her one question and she can report a full- fledged speech on the same.

She is often heard talking how she felt while shooting for the film, as per her, “There was confidence but frankly speaking, I never had an idea that the film would become such a craze. I remember Vivek (Agnihotri) used to say during the making of the film that we were making something special”.

On being quizzed if she has even been through, what Kavya faced, Paoli said, “Thankfully I haven't gone through what Kavya had to in Hate Story. Still, if I put myself into her shoes, I can see the reason why she took such a drastic step (of turning into a prostitute). See, when you are getting betrayed and your life is destroyed, the only thing that is in your mind is 'revenge'. I am sure many girls out there have loved the way she went about destroying the wrong doers”.

But then why did Hate Story couldn’t fetch the expected success. Any answers Paoli?

Paoli Dam set to surprise the audience with her act in film based on wife-swapping

Paoli Dam set to surprise the audience with her act in film based on wife-swapping!

Paoli Dam set to surprise the audience with her act in film based on wife-swapping
Bong seductress Paoli Dam has already surprised the audience with her exotic act as a woman who turns into a hooker to get even with the man who wronged her in her debut film Hate Story.

And now here's an even bigger shocker. Buzz says that producer-director Vikram Bhatt is all set to make a film on the taboo subject of wife-swapping with the bold-and-the-uninhibited Rehana Sultan of this millennium Paoli Dam in the lead.

Vikram who has been researching on wife-swapping has some startling statistics on spouse-swapping. He told the sources, "Why do you say wife-swapping is taboo? You'd be surprised to know how many urban couples indulge in it. It's prevalent, almost rampant in the big cities. Go on the internet. There are websites devoted to wife-swapping. That's what we've come to."

The filmmaker reasons that the motive behind making the film is to explore the psychology of wife-swapping. “How does a man tell his wife to go and sleep with his friend and how does the wife give consent to her husband's sexual tryst with another woman? More importantly, how do the husband and wife look at each other in the eye the morning after? These are questions that haunt me," shares Bhatt.

Well, it seems that Vikram finds it his responsibility to explore such controversial issues in his movies!

Hate Story’ movie review

‘Hate Story’ movie review

Yes you read it right. As much as the PR agency of the film would like us to believe, Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘Hate Story’ falls miserably short of being called an erotic thriller. The film is a revenge saga and to put it simply lacks logic.

The story begins with newspaper reporter Kavya (Paoli Dam) exposing a big scam of a cement company. The company’s owner gives his son (Gulshan Devaiah), who also happens to the MD of the company, 12 hours to fix things. Gulshan manages to convince the CEO of the firm to take the blame. Meanwhile, he befriends Kavya, offers her a lucrative post in his firm and seduces her to sleep with him. Once the job is done, he humiliates Kavya and fires her from the job.

Damsel seeks revenge and for some reason takes up the profession of a prostitute to get to her enemy. No logic given behind the sudden transformation, but Kavya decides that sleeping with important men is the only way to get through her ultimate enemy, Devaiah.

Even though revenge sagas are not new to Hindi cinema, the premise still held some promise. But sadly due to a weak and prolonging script, the viewers are left bored. For those who are eager to know about whether there are bold scenes or not, well, most scenes are just merely suggestive. There is lot panting, sighing, huffing which just plain suggests lot of action between the sheets but that’s all.

Bengali actress Paoli Dam may titillate you with her bare back in the posters but will leave you unimpressed with a performance which lacks any kind of spark. Nikhil Dwivedi, who plays Paoli friend in the movie, just remains in the background. The baddie of the film, Gulshan Devaiah is perhaps the only actor in the film who gives a convincing performance.

A weak script and weak performance makes this film an ordinary revenge tale. Pitty, considering the way it was being marketed, it could have turned out be a bold erotic thriller and perhaps changed the thriller genre in the industry. But that would be asking for a lot!

Ratings: Two cheers for this one!

Paoli Dam is not bothered about Sunny and Poonam's entry in Bollywood

Paoli Dam is not bothered about Sunny and Poonam's entry in Bollywood!
Paoli Dam is not bothered about Sunny and Poonam's entry in Bollywood
Sizzling beauty Paoli Dam is geared to make her Bollywood debut with bold film Hate Story, where she will be seen romancing with two Bollywood actors.

The movie has been in news for its bold content and the bong bombshell is least bothered with it as she is quite comfortable giving such scenes if the script demands so. But if you think she is the only hot actress making debut in Bollywood film then you need a check.

How could anyone forget about strip sensation Poonam Pandey and porn star Sunny Leone making debut in Bollywood industry as these two are busy working on their films. But we guess Paoli is least bothered about them as she says, "Why would their entry in Bollywood bother me?

It's true that apart from me Sunny and Poonam would also be making their Bollywood debut and they are also doing bold roles, but I frankly I don't take them as any competition. Bollywood is a huge place to work and if you are talented enough then you would get your share of work."

Well, it seems that the girl believes in minding her own work rather than peeping out of the window to get updates on others’ life!
