As known, Manu Smriti happens to be one of the biggest treatises produced by our forefathers which talks in detail about the institution of marriage.
Wherein marriage is said to be of two kinds, anuloma and pratiloma, anuloma was married within the caste while pratiloma was married outside the caste. However, it wasn’t ordained that those who chose Pratiloma marriage were to be at the receiving end of the society. Sadly this practice has been adopted at some parts of North India and this was what we saw Aamir Khan dealing with all on his show Satyamev Jayate.
The episode dedicated on highlighting the ill effects of honor killing made the young hearts heave a sigh of relief with Aamir at the supporting end. Though it is pretty clear that putting an end to this practice wouldn’t be an immediate solution as it would take quite a long time but we are glad that Aamir chose this topic for that matter.
With Aamir Khan highlighting the issue one can only hope that the young generation of the present times would get a breathing space and would be allowed to choose their partners on their own, but without getting socially and economically ostracized. Aamir had made it clear on the show that he favors love and can see nothing beyond the true feeling.
