It is Eid-Ul-Adha, popularly known as Bakri Eid and like all devout Muslims, actor Gauahar Khan is also looking forward to celebrating the day with friends and family.
Food is the number one item on her mind, and Gauahar says that she can gorge on Sheer Korma for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Busy with her last minute preparations, Gauahar talks to CS about the festival and her plans:
Time for devotion
Bakri Eid is all about the 'kurbaani' i.e. sacrifice. My sister Negar is quite active in selecting the goat and looking after it. So, the sacrifice will be the main aspect. My mother is back from Dubai, so we are looking forward to celebrating as a family.
We will invite our friends over as well. This festival has a huge religious significance for Muslims. It marks the completion of the pilgrimage to Haj.
As you know, every Muslim has to make that pilgrimage once in a lifetime. My parents and older sisters have already done it, and Inshallah I will also go there sometime soon.
Food for thought
We will have a huge spread at home for the festival. My sister and mom will make mutton biryani, mutton kebabs and sheer korma. This year, I cooked during Ramzan Eid, but I won't be cooking tomorrow. I love sheer korma, which is made of milk and dry fruits.
We will have guests at home, so it will be a huge feast. I am a foodie, and love non-vegetarian dishes. Since, I follow a diet regime on normal days, a festival like this gives me an excuse to gorge on my favourite foods.
Down memory lane
I remember back in our family home in Pune, the goats used to be brought home six months back. We used to name them and feed them regularly. My brother and I simply loved them. My dad who used to work in Japan at that time also used to be home for this festival. So, Bakri Eid has always been about family bonding.
Dressing to the hilt
Actually, I haven't had the time to shop for the festival. But I always have some nice Indian wear at hand for such events. In fact, Negar and I have so many unstitched dress materials at home that our mom will kill us if we buy more.
I am going to wear a pink and gold jacket style salwar kameez for Bakri Eid. I love jewellery, so I am going to sport chandelier earrings and bangles. I am a big fan of gold jewellery, so you will see me with gold bangles.
